Student Journey
Your Student Journey to the UK
From choosing a course to flying to the UK – we support you every step of the way.
How to choose the right course for your career goals
Selecting a course that matches your interests and career plans is the most important step. We guide you through it step by step.
- Decide your subject area – Business, Computing, Engineering, Healthcare, or Creative Arts – which field do you want to graduate in?
- Check university rankings and location – Consider teaching quality, campus facilities, and lifestyle costs.
- Look at course duration and fees – An honours degree in the UK typically takes 3 years, a Master's takes 1 year. Check fees and scholarships for international students.
- Understand entry requirements – Academic qualifications, IELTS/PTE scores, portfolio (if applicable).
Our counsellors offer free course selection workshops.
Step-by-step application guide
The application process for UK universities is usually done via UCAS or directly through the university portal.
What you will need
- Complete academic transcripts and certificates
- Statement of Purpose (SOP) – why this course and this university?
- 2 reference letters (academic or professional)
- Proof of English proficiency (IELTS for UKVI, PTE Academic UKVI)
- Copy of your passport
How we help
- Provide a document checklist
- Review your SOP and reference letters
- Track university deadlines for you
Most September intake deadlines close between January and March. Start your preparation now.
What happens after you submit your application?
After you submit your application, the university usually takes 4–8 weeks to decide. There are two types of offers:
- Conditional Offer – You must still meet some requirements (e.g. a specific IELTS score, passing a preliminary exam).
- Unconditional Offer – No conditions; you can confirm your place immediately.
What you need to do now
- Read the offer letter carefully (deposit fee, confirmation deadline).
- If you receive a Conditional Offer, work quickly to meet the conditions.
- If you receive an Unconditional Offer, confirm your place with the university and apply for your Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
Once you have your CAS, you become eligible to apply for your visa.
UK Student Visa (formerly Tier 4) – what you need to know
Once you receive your CAS number, apply for your visa online. The process finishes with a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) appointment.
Required documents
- Valid passport
- CAS letter from your university
- Proof of finances (tuition fees + living costs – £1,334/month in London, £1,023/month outside London)
- IELTS for UKVI (if required)
- TB (Tuberculosis) test report – mandatory for applicants from some countries
- Police clearance certificate (if applicable)
Current visa fees (approx.)
- Main visa fee: ~£363 (outside UK)
- Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS): £470 per year
Visa processing normally takes 3 weeks. Be patient and avoid any fraudulent activity.
Your pre-departure and arrival checklist
After you receive your visa, it’s time to prepare for your flight and accommodation.
Booking your flight
- Aim to arrive at least 7 days before the university’s orientation week.
- Choose the nearest airport to your university: Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, or Edinburgh.
Accommodation
- University on-campus halls or private off-campus housing – book in advance.
- Read your tenancy agreement carefully before paying any deposit.
Final checklist
- Buy a UK SIM card (Lebara, Giffgaff, Voxi – affordable options)
- Collect your BRP (Biometric Residence Permit) card to open a bank account.
- Register with a GP (doctor) – free under the NHS.
We offer pre-arrival briefing webinars.
